Food for Thought

"Timely advice is lovely, like golden apples in a silver basket"
Proverbs 25:  11  (NLT)

"If I had only known that sooner".  "Hindsight is 20/20".  Knowing the right words to say at the right time.  Timely advice.  Don't you wish you could have had someone to advise you before you made that costly purchase?  Or, perhaps before you made that life-altering choice?

Everyone needs some advice from time to time, even those of us (yes, myself included) that have very strong opinions and viewpoints on a variety of matters.  No one can "know it all", unless, of course, it's God.  We all could use some help along the way.

That's why we have trained guidance counselors, or marriage and family counselors.  Individuals that can help to guide us, to point us in the right direction.  Someone with an objective opinion when our life becomes unsettled.  Most people truly want to hear advice, whether or not they adhere to it.  They want someone to listen to them, to offer support and wise words, helping them to make some hard decisions.

But, even as Christians, we all too often will run to someone else before we go to God.  We will talk about problems and situations to others, then finally, we look up and ask, "Now, God, what should I do about this?"  God wants us to come to Him first.  He wants us to seek answers in Him.  Anything we may encounter in this life, an answer has already been provided in His Word.
